How did I get into Toastmasters?
In 2000, a new role as a consultant required of me to present to audiences of various sizes - from presentations to small teams of a company to a large audience of professionals. Five years later, while living in Tokyo, I eventually took the plunge and joined a Toastmasters club in Tokyo (the Tokyo Breakfast Toastmasters Club). I immediately enjoyed the challenging yet friendly learning atmosphere and started my journey along the Competent Communicator (CC) Manual - while in Japan I completed the first 5 speeches of the CC Manual.
Why the Achievers Toastmasters Club in Hong Kong?
Since late summer of 2006, Hong Kong is my home (again) - but until late 2007, my work schedule was incredibly packed and I did take a short pause from Toastmasters. Finally, I set out to find a suitable club in Hong Kong and, after some searching, joined Achievers once as a guest and simply knew this was the club to join: a wide array of experienced speakers and new-comers with diverse, enjoyable and insightful meetings.
My Toastmaster Journey
In March 2010, I completed the CC manual and have since focused on the Advanced Manuals but even more so on the Competent Leadership (CL) which I'm aiming to complete by June 2011.
As a co-VP of Education I did supported the club in 2009-2010, but really got fully involved as President of the Hong Kong Achievers Toastmasters Club - and it has been an exciting and rewarding ride so far, thanks to an incredible Exco Team.
