My Toastmastering Mentality:

The essence of being an Achiever is to have the heart to continuously improve oneself in the face of many constraints or limitations. I was born to have many physical shortcomings; weak eyes, weak stomach, just to name a few. I was brave enough to face my weaknesses and shortcomings and coup with them so that they would not impede my journey towards great achievements, or from the other perspective, presented as neutral or even augmenting characteristics which could add values to my appeal.

First off, I realize that my appearance with a pair of stylish glasses would enhance my appearance than without it. The better appearance has improved my confidence in front of the audience while giving a speech.

Secondly, my sensitive and weak stomach has indirectly reinforced my decision making skills and allowed me to learn when to say NO to temptations; I cannot eat any raw food including sushi, sashimi, medium rare steak, etc. Sushi is so tasty and highly regarded by people around the world, but the consequence of crossing the line in biting the “forbidden apple” is a long excruciatingly painful session in the bathroom. I would have to take control of my life by picking cooked food or negotiating for a non-sushi restaurant altogether dining out with friends.

In order to do well in any line of business including a distinguished TM, you will have to consolidate (or at least mask) your weaknesses while mastering one or two outstanding items in your arsenal.

Gordon, I set up a personal free box.net account; I think either one of the Exco would need to set one up every year since business account costs 15USD per month (and, we can use personal since our purposes are not commercial); see if you can connect via the 'Archive' tab
